1. OXSCIE Programme Resources

Please feel free to download the most up-to-date version of the OXSCIE programme resources, including the Agenda, Round Table Assignments, Delegate List, Delegate Biographies, and our Essay Winners for 2018. 

2. Pre-OXSCIE Social (new location)

For delegates arriving early on Monday, June 18th, there will be an optional, informal pre-OXSCIE informal social gathering for OXSCIE delegates at St. Aldate's Tavern. The FIFA World Cup match between England and Tunisia will also be shown at the Tavern. Delegates are responsible for the costs incurred. 

 

Date and Time: Tuesday, June 18th, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at St. Aldate's Tavern.

3. OXSCIE Travel and Logistics Information 

A) Accommodation:

For delegates who haven’t yet booked their accommodation, we have secured pro-rated rooms at £100 pounds per night at the Holiday Inn at Peartree Roundabout. You will have to book the room through us and the University will invoice you after the event. If you would like to book a room, please email oxscie@education.ox.ac.uk with the subject ‘Accommodation Request’ and the dates of your booking.

B) Venue:

OXSCIE 2018 will be held at Keble College Oxford, Oxford OX1 3PG. The College is located just north of the City Centre, opposite the Museum of Natural History and University Parks. The nearest bus stop is Keble Road.

C) Travelling to Oxford:

Option 1 - Travelling to Oxford by bus from the airport:

The Oxford Bus Company provides a useful bus service between the airports Gatwick and Heathrow and Oxford Central Bus Station, Gloucester Green, in the middle of town. The schedule can be found here: The Airline.

Option 2 - Travelling to Oxford by taxi from the airport:

Taxis are available from the airport information desk, and the Uber app can be used to order a taxi as well. Taxis range in cost from £80-£130. Oxford taxi companies offer pre-booking services for airport pick-ups and drop offs. For more information please contact Royal Cars directly.

Option 3 - Travelling to Oxford by train:

Oxford’s two train stations allow travellers from all directions to reach the city.

Station 1 - Oxford Parkway Station

Oxford Parkway Station is situated in the north of Oxford, right next to the Water Eaton Park and Ride site. Trains to Oxford Parkway leave from Marylebone and will take an hour to Oxford. The Nr 500 bus connects the station with Keble Road, making it ideal for delegates travelling to Oxford on the day.

Station 2 - Oxford Train Station

Oxford train station is located in the Oxford City Centre, about 15-20 minutes walking distance from Keble College. Taxis are available and will cost approximately £5, which is the minimum charge.

Option 4 - Travelling to Oxford by Car

Parking can be very expensive in Oxford; if you choose to drive, please consider parking your car for the two days of the Symposium at one of the Park and Ride sites located around Oxford. Please see here for Park and Ride locations. All P&R sites are connected to the City Centre by bus.

D.) Getting around Oxford:

Most places in Oxford are within walking distance, though taxis can be more convenient. To book a taxi, please call Royals Cars: +44 1865 777333. Oxford has a well-developed public transport system. Most modern buses allow contactless payments, though you may need cash in some instances. Most buses towards North Oxford leave from Magdalen Street, outside of Debenham’s. Bus routes are available on Google Maps.

F.) Things to do in Oxford

Oxford is a beautiful city, steeped in history. It is world-renowned for its museums and dreaming spires. We hope you will be able to experience some of its charm over the course of your stay. Please find a map of the Oxford City Centre with some of its main attractions here.
